And Justice for All

Posted by maribel on 28/01/2011

People involved in a trial:

judge

prosecutor

witness

defence

defendant

jury

witness

victim

Here you have an amazing courtroom scene from the 1979 film And Justice for All, starring Al Pacino, in which an ethical Baltimore defense lawyer disgusted with rampant legal corruption is asked to defend a judge he despises in a rape trial. But if he doesn’t do it, the judge will have him disbarred. We watched the beginning in class. Now you can see how it ends.

My Blueberry Nights

Posted by maribel on 13/10/2010

Elizabeth: So what’s wrong with the Blueberry Pie?
Jeremy: There’s nothing wrong with the Blueberry Pie, just people make other choices. You can’t blame the Blueberry Pie, it’s just… no one wants it.
Elizabeth: Wait! I want a piece.

Elizabeth’s heart is broken. She drops in late at night a few times at Jeremy’s diner for blueberry pie; they talk. Once, he watchers her sleep, her head on the counter. Abruptly, she leaves New York City to get away from her pain. She works a couple of jobs in Memphis. Then, she’s in Nevada, working at a casino. Along the way she encounts a series of offbeat characters. Elizabeth is Norah Jones. Jeremy is Jude Law. Natalie Portman and Rachel Weisz also star in this film by Wong-Kar Wai

You can watch My Blueberry Nights courtesy of Javier O. Remember to bring a USB flash drive to class.
